I went out with my girlfriend today to Causeway Point as she wanted to eat kimchi ramen! =p lol.. So we went to the Mega Foodmall. She ate her kimchi ramen and for me, as I was really hungry, I actually bought a bento set and fried fish dumpling noodles. My girlfriends probably just finished half of her ramen when I finished both! Opps! =x lol..

Causeway Point seemed to be really quite today! Probably because some of the tenants have stopped their operations as the shopping centre is going to undergo its renovation really soon. Today was John Little's last day. It was having clearance sale and we actually went in and I bought a new belt, only to realise that it was not a discounted item! =p lol..

Oh! and I actually went to activate my DBS Debit Card! =D lol.. Its my first card! So kinda excited over it! =D Well well. as a working adult, gotta have a card or two right? =p lol.

Uni Friends Outing @ Party World and Iluma

It was a good Friday afternoon. I managed to meet some of my uni friends and went to Party World at The Verge @ Little India. But as usual, did not really sing, cause I did not want to create noise pollution. =x lol..

After that one of my friends drove us to Iluma for dinner. Along the way, I actually did not see any tall buildings! All were 2-storey shophouses. It did not look like Singapore to me at all, because I hardly see any place in Singapore without seeing any tall buildings! (or maybe because i am just too used to seeing tall buildings at my workplace! Opps! =x lol.. )

And then here we were at Iluma. We went in and I realised that the interior was really nice! and the escallators looked really long, reminded me of those in Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. We decided to have Japanese food and we went to this Ebisboshi Shotengai Japanense Restaurant. The food was quite nice actually, though the ordering process of using that noisy pen was really kinda annoying! =x lol.. But it was nice lah! =]

Nice to see friends once a while. =]

... I just bought a bottle of "Kickapoo' soft drink. Then I walked down the street, quite dark, didnt see any people on the street. I walked for quite a distance before I saw this shop. I could recognised that this shop belonged to one of my uncles. I saw that the light was still on, so I just took a peek to see if anyone was inside.

I saw my dad! He was packing up. Looked like he was the shop owner. ("Weird, how come he is looking after my uncle shop?" ) Nonetheless, this question didnt bother me. I felt very guilty and sad to see my dad was still working at his age.

My father saw me. He looked tired. Then he locked the door and drank the kickapoo that i bought for him. After that we walked home together...

I woke up from my dream before we reach home.

Long Weekend, Office and I

I went back to office on Sunday to basically just to bring my laptop home because I am goin to my client's place straight tomorrow.

Going out for family dinner at Dian Xiao Er later. As some of you may know, I am now a working adult! So its my turn to pick up the tab and pay for the bill! =p lol. Oh, its the first time my gf is joining me for my family dinner! =]

We were not sure where to go at first. After some discussion we decided to go to Nihon Mura @ Revenue House for our dinner! =]

As we reached Novena earlier, we decided to walk around. Most shops were closed. Only fastfood chains, 7-11 and those jewellery outlets opened. Oh oh! Cold Storage, Guardian and Watsons were opened too! Maybe because they have foreign bosses, that why CNY still opened. =x lol. But good also lah, if not did not know where could we shop. =x muahaha..

Then we went to the Revenue House. I thought there would be a lot of people dining out on that day, so i decided to make a reservation in advance. In the end when we went there, the restaurant still have quite a lot of empty seats! No need to reserve at all! =p lol.

The food was nice! and quite cheap too lah actually. =] We had some sushi, then scallops garlic fried rice, soba, gyoza, takoyaki etc. We were quite full at the end! =D lol.. Really enjoyed having dinner with my gf! =]

Oh! Bought her a bouquet of roses too! Bought it from the same friend last year. But this year there was an improvement as my friend put in some berries in the bouquet. My gf liked it! =] lol. We bought each other vday gifts beforehand when we went on to shop together. I bought her a new bag, she bought me a new wallet, which I liked it alot!! =]

Its a simple yet happy day for me. *lurve* =]

I was sooo busy today!! =p lol. First i went to my bro-in-law's place to have steamboat/teppanyaki lunch! After that rushed to Dover to collect Vday flower for my gf! After that rushed back home to brush up then went to my gf's place to have another round of teppanyaki dinner! =p lol.. Ate quite a lot of food, and drank quite a lot of can drinks.. =x lol. Shall not eat so much for the nxt few days! =p lol. If not all the weight that i have lost for the past 2 months would come back and look for me again! =x muahhahaha..

Stomach Flu

I didn't know what wrong food have I eaten, or I was just simply so unlucky that i breathed in the virus (or bacteria), this damn stomach flu really made me feeling sick and so weak. I gotta rest on my bed for one whole day. My bed was so hot and I was so weak that I have no choice but to ROLL myself off my bed! (yeap people, I 滚下床!! =s lol..) and sat on the floor before I CLIMBED back to my bed again! That was how weak I was! -.-"

But luckily, I went to see doctor immediately after I started to feel unwell on my way home. I have a long day the next day for my Company Law class and my exam is in two weeks' time, so I cannot afford to fall sick now! =x Thankz Sis for lending me the money to go and visit the doctor! If not because of you I would have suffered for one more day o more! *appreciate your kindness* =]

The doctor said I got stomach flu. Syndromes - stomachache, fever, feel like vomiting. And the doctor said my stomach got a lot of wind! So i gotta eat charcoal tablets! My 1st time to eat such medication. Oh people, the texture of the tablet is really like the real charcoal (of course, what am I talking! =x lol..)!! Not the normal texture of tablets! =p lol.. But I wonder why I have stomach wind at the first place! =p lol..

Thankz for those friends who sent in their regards! =] and thankz for my sweet girlfriend who offered to buy me breakfast! *lurve* =]

I always feel like human is a weak life form, who always pretends to be the strongest among all. Sometimes I just feel that perhaps we have been dominating this world for too long that we have forgotten that we could be just as weak as other life forms (which we always perceived them to be weaker ones). That is why sometimes i like to be sick, it serves as a reminder to myself that I am not as strong as I am, gotta be humble and cherish the loved ones out there. =]

Today when I was on my way to school, I saw a guy who could not control his limbs properly, maybe due to a certain illness. Then when I walked pass him, I suddenly heard a sound of someone fell down. Then I turned back to see and realised that that guy was on the ground. When I walked back to offer my help, he was already stood up, said thanks to me and smiled at me before he continued his journey.

At that point I started to wonder, woah, he was very li hai, he could stand up by his own in such a fast way and continue his walk. Apart from my admiration, I suddenly realised that it must be very hard to walk without a proper control of our legs, and that guy must has went through lots of difficulties and practices such that he is now able to walk again now and lead a rather normal life.

He was so strong that I was feeling weak.

So sianz Sat still need to go back to school for Risk Management class. Worse, I was late! Didn't even have the time to wear my contact lenses. Feeling quite sad that "sth" has finally expired, but oh well, at least I could put it down peacefully. =] lol.

After that I was rushing home to wash up and went to pick my gf up and went to watch Harry Potter together. =] I was happy not because of the movie (and I am never a fan of this series!) but it was great to watch movie together with her again after so long from being absent due to TIG and sickness! =x Lurve! =]

Oh! We did rush to Tampines to buy her bag and then rush back to Woodlands again for a really quick dinner at Yoshinoya! =D But both of us are hungry now, apparently. =p lol.

Such number as may be deemed necessary to perform the stated task in a timely and efficient manner within the strictures of the following agreement.

Whereas the party of the first part, also known as 'the lawyers' and the party of the second part, also known as 'the light bulb' do hereby agree to a transaction wherein the party of the second part (light bulb) shall be removed from the current position as a result of failure to perform previously agreed upon duties, i.e. the lighting, elucidation, and otherwise illumination of the area ranging from the front (North) door, through the entryway, terminating at an area just through the primary living area, demarcated by the beginning of the carpet, any spillover illumination being at the option of the party of the second part (light bulb) and not required by the aforementioned agreement between the parties. The aforementioned removal transaction shall include, but not be limited to, the following steps:

1. The party of the first part (lawyer) shall, with or without elevation at his option, by means of a chair, step stool, ladder or any other means of elevation, grasp the party of the second part (light bulb) and rotate the party of the second part (light bulb) in a counter clockwise direction, said direction being non-negotiable. Said grasping and rotation of the party of the second part (light bulb) shall be undertaken by the party of the first part (lawyer) to maintain the structural integrity of the party of the second part (light bulb), notwithstanding the aforementioned failure of the party of the second part (light bulb) to perform the customary and agreed upon duties. The foregoing notwithstanding, however, both parties stipulate that structural failure of the party of the second part (light bulb) may be incidental to the aforementioned failure to perform and in such case the party of the first part (lawyer) shall be held blameless for such structural failure insofar as the non-negotiable directional codicil (counter-clockwise) is observed by the party of the first part (lawyer) throughout.

2. Upon reaching a point where the party of the second part (light bulb) becomes separated from the party of the third part ('receptacle'), the party of the first part (lawyer) shall have the option of disposing of the party of the second part (light bulb) in a manner consistent with all applicable state, local, and federal statutes.

3. Once separation and disposal have been achieved, the party of the first part (lawyer) shall have the option of beginning the installation of the party of the fourth part ('new light bulb'). This installation shall occur in a manner consistent with the reverse procedures described in step one of this self same document, being careful to note that the rotation should occur in a clockwise direction, said direction also being non-negotiable and only until the party of the fourth part (new light bulb) becomes snug in the party of the third part (receptacle) and in fact becomes the party of the second part (light bulb).

Disclaimer: The above described steps may be performed, at the option of the party of the first part (lawyer), by said party of the first part (lawyer), or by his or her heirs and assigns, or by any and all persons authorized by him or her to do so the objective being to produce a level of illumination in the immediate vicinity of the aforementioned front (North) door consistent with maximisation of ingress and revenue for the party of the fifth part, also known as 'The Firm'.

An unfinished post

When I tidied up my room few weeks ago, I found a stack of cards that I didn't send out. There were about 13 cards I think? And today, another 3 joined that stack. There were many reasons why I wrote finish a card, but in the end never send it out. Perhaps I didn't have the address, or the receiver's birthday has already passed by the time I finished writing it, or just simply, the receiver no longer see the need for receiving the card.

Am I sad? Am I disappointed? Or am I simply sad that things always turn out this way? It's a cycle that I have no idea how to break. Perhaps I have resigned to this.

Weird, I couldn't continue to write this post. It's the first time I experienced this.

Going back as A Chinese Teacher

I have been really busy since last Thursday. This is because I went back to my secondary school to volunteer myself to teach Chinese as my juniors would be taking their Chinese O Level papers this coming Monday. I really enjoyed to go back to my old schools, be it secondary school or junior college (but not my current school though =p lol.) because I can always help out and derive much satisfaction from it! =D Beside, I like to interact with people and my juniors as well as new teachers! =D lol.

I was primarily in-charge of this class of Sec 5 class (just like last year!) which is supposed to be not-that-good compared to their peers from another class. But apparently, from what I have learnt about them from our interactions for the past few days, I realized that many of them were not that bad. They did have a certain level of Chinese standard already. Perhaps it was just that they were not that confidence, or lack of some critical skills such as to examine the question and answer them in the way the question required them to do. In addition, some of them are really hardworking and kept asking lots of questions. There was this junior called Eugene and when his classmates went out for break before the night class, he held me back and asked me lots of questions! In the end for the next two hours, the big whiteboard was full of Chinese characters and sentences that I shared with him when he asked me questions. There was also this guy called Timmy who was well-known for his “mischievous behaviours” (yeap people you know what I meant =p lol.). But despite that, I must say that he was quite good in Chinese and rather well-behaved in my class! =] There was also this guy called Qin Quan, who looks abit like “pei kia” and sometimes would say something very irritating, like when the teacher asked him to do a practice paper, he would like “Aiyah teacher can don’t do or not, I very tired already” something along that line. But nonetheless, when he was given the paper, he would do the paper quietly all the way until he had done his paper, unlike his peers who would get distracted more easily than him.

Then when this group of Sec 5 kids went out for their dinner, i would go to teach other kids. =] There was this girl called Pamela. A friendly one who always asked questions. i believed she will be able to do really well. Not too worried because she could take a good care of herself. =] But, i more problematic one was her friend Vanessa. At 1st i noticed her because of her hair colour, but oh well, its naturally like that so i have nothing to say! =p lol. Then hor, got CCA never come for night class. Okay suan le. Then when i finally saw her again in the night class, she came in reading magazine at 5pm, then read all the way to 6.15pm! -.-"" So much so that her own friends said, "Wah! you finally start liao arh??" Classic! lol. I was worried for her sia. Vanessa if you are reading this, please buck up! But remember dont overstress yourself as well okay? =]

All in all, I realized that how fulfilling it is to become a teacher, especially when they were able to understand what they have asked after you explained or answered them! =] I really enjoyed it. And apparently my students too, because when I told them yesterday was my last day they were like “WHY?!? Why tomorrow you not coming already?!?! Come leh come leh…” =p lol.

Last but not least, I would like to use this opportunity to thank my gf for allowing me to do all these. My gf had been really supportive to me by allowing me to go back and help out. What is more, she even offered me it is okay not to fetch her on Friday like I usually do and let me go back to teach again. Rejected her! Caused I think that it is alright for me to use my own time to do things that I like, but still I shall not be selfish and do just things that I like to do at the expense of our own time together! So no no! I will still come and fetch you! =D Even though this passage is not very long, but I do want to say that I really appreciate for everything that you have been given to me. What more can I ask from her? =p lol *muaxkz* lurve! =]

Oh well people, I had a weird dream again this morning – I actually dreamt of Michelle Chia and Tay Ping Hui (oh yes people, they are the MediaCorp artists). Damn weird, somehow I just managed to dream of them! =p lol. The background was really weird also. Apparently in my dream I was in a class with my secondary school friends forming a group. I decided to let the other friends of my to join another group, then I would join my good friends to form our own group. In the end, I saw both of them were alone, so I decided to join them to form a group. Then apparently I was in disagreement with them and I decided to join another group but it was too late! And after that I woke up. =s

What a weird dream, is this a bad omen for my coming project work?? =x lol..

I had a weird dream this morning. I was in Bishan taking the new LRT (Oh yes people, I was damn sure that I was in BISHAN taking the new LRT line, when in reality Bishan didn't have any LRT line, only the newly-open Circle Line! =x lol.). Then the LRT was too crowded I couldn't get into the train. You know what I did? I actually managed to stick onto the exterior of the train just like a lizard! And the train moved! The weird thing was, in that dream, I thought that doing that was perfectly fine and acceptable! =s lol. Then a SMRT uncle chased me from one station to the other station. Then he stopped me, and asked me not to stick onto the train. Then I actually went on and argued with him that it was perfectly fine and LEGAL! =s lol. But he said it was too dangerous. Then I double confirmed with him again saying, "Are you sure you don't allow me to do this?" and he replied firmly "Yes!". I was so angry and embarrassed that I woke up! =x

What a weird and lame dream. =p lol.

Well, i dont really do well for Finance, but i find that Finance is a interesting subject that u can always apply to ur life.. =] Dont believe?

Because of market is imperfect, tts why we can exploit it to earn abnormal profit. My Finance tutorial has early and late classes. I was supposed to go for late class, but i went both classes. Then the early class tcher, Mr Lee, "Eh? How come u are in my class arh?" Wah, ur sch fee only entitled u to come for one class, u come 2 classes arh?" This was my answer, "Oh, bcoz i noe that no one will come and catch me for attending two classes (such that the market is imperfect). By knowing that, I decided to exploit the imperfect market so that i could attend two tutorials and enjoyed the benefit of being taught by two tutors. I am earning abnormal profit!! =p lol.."

Fried Chicken Ramen with Level 8 SPICINESS ~~~

Finally managed to eat my Level 8 fried chicken ramen again! Woots! =D But the Level 8 spiciness no longer challenging. It's still spicy of course, but it seems that my stomach has conquered it. Level 9 Level 10 where are you?!?! =x

The ramen itself is so-so only. And the soup is not that nice actually, it's just spicy. The pieces of fried chicken are nice, even though my friends thought that they are a bit too salty. =p lol.

Try it if u like spicy spicy. But as a word of caution, normal people can only withstand Level 1 or 2, max 4. Only those abnormal people like me should try Level 8! My friend who didn't eat any spicy food, cannot even withstand a small slip of Level 8 soup! =x lol.

A Disposable Item

I just saw how A treated B as a disposable item. B gave her best to A, but A dumped B for C. It is always the case. A will just go and look for C or D or E. Only when A cannot find others, then A will look for B. And when there are other choices, A will always dump B. The others are nothing better. Even though C or D knows that A is dumping B, they will just keep quite out of their self-interest. I am really tired of all these.

All are just behaving in their own interests. We are not as friendly as we were. I was wondering why things have developed in this manner. I thought of it sometimes, and I realised that the equilibrium has been disturbed. This caused all of us to behave in a way that you see on the TV show "Survivors". Being nice (even though it's sincerely nice) seems to be really fake, only being self-interest seems to be the real us. How sad is that. So much so that I myself think that there is no longer a need to go for an extra mile, since no one will appreciate it anyway. As much as I don't want to get involved in all these, I have no choice to play along, if not the person that is going to be voted out next will be me.

Ha! I always tell people that no choice is also a choice. Looks like it's finally the time for me to eat my own words…

My mind was seriously disturbed for the past 2 days. I have been thinking of quite a number of things. Luckily, I thought of those things during my holiday period. If it was during my exam period, then my exam would have been a gone case because my mind was seriously pre-occupied by all these issues (apart from those happy moments I have with my gf though! =p muahaha).

I started to watch <Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion> few days ago, but get hooked by it and I finished both the 1^st and 2^nd season 50 episodes! =x lol. In one of the episode, The King of an empire said something like this: "All men are not created equal. Some are born with greater beauty, some are born into poverty and others are born sicken, both in birth and upbringing. Every human is inherently different. Yes, that is why people discriminate one another, which is why there is struggle, competition, and a march of progress. Inequality is not wrong, equality is! We fight, we compete, evolution is continuous! We will fight on. We shall struggle, compete, plunder and dominate. And in the end, the future shall be ours.".

Hm.., fundamentally, I do agree that inequality by itself is not wrong, because precisely because we are born unequal, that is why we all try to improve ourselves – if I am poor, I will work hard to be rich, if I am weak, I will train myself to be strong, if my grade is not good, then I will study hard to improve my grade. It spurs the competition up, which is good. Only when there is a competition then it will speed up the innovation. My competition does not narrow to competitions between humans, but also competitions between non-humans. For example, scientists are trying to analyse the recent swine flu virus and rush to develop the vaccine. Isn't it another form of competition?

I was trying to think this: What if from the start, all things are equal? Are will still going to improve? Will all fighting stop? My answer is probably not. The reason is very simple. We as humans have desires. We want to be better than others. If all people are equally rich, surely there are some of us who want to be richer. If all of us are equally smart, surely there are some of us who want to be smarter. This list goes on.

Hence, does it matter whether equality or inequality is right or wrong? Inequality will always be there and there is no way we can achieve equality. Hence, what is the use of equality when there is no way we can achieve it! And if we think it from the start, are we really pursuing for equality? Are we working hard just to be as rich as others? Or are we working hard to be RICHER than others? Are we trying just to be as smart as others? Or are we trying to be SMARTER than others?

Hm.. If all men not born equal, are they entitled with the same rights? The right for freedom, the right to live, the right to receive education. The right to receive education for example, in order to fund education for all, there is a need to channel resources through the government from the rich, which is often said to be income distribution – tax the wealthy heavily and channel these resources to the poor. Thus, this group of wealthy people, which may not use this service (perhaps they send their children overseas or anything else) but nonetheless will have to subsidized this system to support the so-called 'equal education' when they themselves do not enjoy the benefit! How equal it is from their perspective then? Are we trying to build an equal world that is based on inequality of a certain group of people in society?

However, how about those humanitarian works then? Aren't they the same as the example above? If you ask me, I would say that there is a fundamental difference between the group of people that contributes those funds and resources. In the example above, I assume that people are forced to pay more taxes because of the law that requires them to do so. Hence, it is a compulsory contribution back to society. In the latter case, however, I assume that people are willingly giving out more than what they are required to give. Hence, it is a voluntary contribution back to society. If we are forced to do something for the sake of equality, is that equality really equal? However, if we are willingly contributing more than we are required, does that really matter whether for it to be equal or not? I owe everything that I have now from society, thus it is equal and fair for me to give back more to society since I am able to do so.

Hence, if we are on the strong side, we can see that the definition of equality is based on how we can see interpret it. We can do so because we are on the strong side – we command all those wealth and resources. The notion of 'all men are created equal' no longer sounds as divinely as it is. Rather, it is simply a matter of choice based on our interpretation.

Oh, but don't get me wrong. I am not trying to say that 'you poor people, whether or not I help you is my choice.'. It is never my intention to say that the weak is so pity that they are subjected to the mercy of the strong. Of course, it is undeniable that it is purely based on the strong's self interpretation and choice on whether he wants to help the weak. Some may argue that as long as the strong keep the weak weak, the strong will remain as strong. Okay that is reasonable.

However, while my view is that we are not created equal, but that doesn't mean that the strong can bully the weak. The strong can continue to remain strong, but not at the expense of the weak. It is not a zero sum game where I have to extort the weak in order to stay strong. Rather, by helping the weak to become strong, the strong can become stronger.

But again, we need to know that not many strong people are willing to help the weak. If that is the case, then we have no choice but to force the strong to help the poor? Oh dear, while I never believe that we should sacrifice one small group of people for the benefit of all, in the end I reached the same conclusion that I never agree on! =x

It this world is so contradicting, or it is just me myself who is contradicting? Hm..

Since when getting your own drink is a CHORE??

When I read this article "Do your kids do chores?", I was like so surprised!

The most popular chores included getting their own drink, getting their own meals, frying an egg and making the bed. I was like, "WTH is this? Since when getting your own drink became a chore to youngsters nowadays?" You meant getting yourself a cup of water is a CHORE? To go and da bao food is a CHORE? Okay loh fine, so the next generation will say "The most popular chores included drinking water and eating food" and you all need people to feed you right??

My definition of household chores are sweeping and mopping the floor, cleaning the window, washing, hanging and ironing your own clothes, and cleaning the kitchen and toilet. Since when looking for drink and food is a chore??

A youngster said, "Oh, chores are all about common sense. When I need to do it, I am sure that I will be able to do it well." Ya right. You think doing chores very easy arh? You try and go and do lah! To be fair, let me go to your house and we do chores together, let complete who can finish better and faster. You do know that different ways of holding your broom can give you different results? Do you know that you need different brushes to clean different part of your toilets?

Some may say that "Walew, why do I need to know all these sia? It is not as if I am going to do all these next time." Oh yes, you are right. But my point is this: doing chores help you to think things different, how to do chores in a more efficient manner? Rather than the hard skills of doing chores, what I want to emphasise here is the soft skills that you may gain from doing the chores – to stimulate yourself to think, can I do this in an easier way? Can I do this differently?

Most importantly, doing household chores help us to be responsible to ourselves. If we messed up our room, then we should be the one who tidy up. If we are the one wearing clothes, then we are the one who should wash and iron it. Why do we need to hire other person to take care of our ownselves? I have some friends, once their maid took leaves and no one handles the chores, they really messed up their day-to-day lives. They don't even know how to us the washing machine – they mistook softener as detergent, they don't know how to iron their clothes – they just came to school with their clothes full of wrinkles. I meant, you cant even take a good care of yourself, how do you expect other people to believe that you are able to take care of your own life and to take care of your future partner and family?

I recently came across this article of "Politics? Not for me" where a talented Singaporean (I assumed he is because after all he managed to get into a top university) said something like this, "A lot of it has to do with contentment. I'm happy with the way things are, there's no reason to be an activist. I've benefited from the system, I don't feel that there is anything worth changing."

I am not trying to criticise this person in particular. I am just trying to reflect on what he said. If we have benefited from our current system, then can we just say that there isn't anything worth changing? How about those people who have not been able to benefit from current system? Can we just say that, "Oh! I benefited can already what! Why should I care whether or not other people benefit? As long as I benefit jiu can liao loh!".

I beg to differ. We are living in the society where there is always another group of people who has not been able to benefit from the current system – the poor, the underprivileged, and the destitute. Does that mean that they are ought to be forgotten? A good example is our education system. Our education system has evolved over the time and it is widely-recognised that it is at world-class standard. Now, supposed during the 70s, there was this person who benefited from the 70s system said, "Oh, I have benefited from this system, so let us just keep this system because I see no need to change since I benefited from this system." Then what will happen to us who are living the in 90s or now?

Have any of us thought of this – if those people who benefited from the education system in the 70s did not push forward with the reform of the education system, would more people in the 90s benefit from the reformed education system? Without these reforms and changes, we will not be able to benefit from current education system that is more holistic and allows more people to pursue more diverse interests and passions.

What I wanted to say is this: Just because we have benefited from current system and thus do not see the need to change is a dangerous view. To passively wait and only when we see problems then we change may be too late in some cases. We should, instead, take a more proactive stance and continue to seek improvement to come out with a better system that allows more people in society to benefit.

60 Earth Hour

Hi people!! =]

Tommorow is the day – "60 Earth Hour". The day where people all around the world will switch off unnecessary lighting and electricity applications from one hour starting from 8.30pm to 9.30pm to send a powerful global message that we need to take action on climate change.

Thus, I have decided that with the effect of 00:00AM 28^th March 2009 to 00:00AM 29^th March 2009, I shall switch off:

My Computer (which I on almost the whole day!)
The TV (not watching TV for the whole day!)
The Heater when I bath
All lighting and fan (I shall go Mac for its lighting and air-con, so that I don't need to switch on additional light and fan at my home!)

My hand phone and MP3 will still on, but on minimum usage! During the period of 8.30-9.30pm, I shall be jogging around my neighbourhood so that I can minimise the electricity usage during that period! =]

I just heard from radio that last year, the total electricity usage of last year de 1-hr switch off period actually increased! =x Opps! Hopefully this year the total electricity usage will decrease! =]

Please to your part and switch off your lighting for one hour starting from 8.30pm tomorrow!

Camarine - proud to have a junior like u! =DDD

After my International Finance this morning, my friend brought me to climb "hills" to visit another coffee shop for lunch (which I never been there before!). I realised that there were so many nice food there to choose!! =p lol. In the end, three of us went to bought some "Fried Fish Soup" – One of bowl of 清汤 full of veggies, one bowl of fried fish (the portion was really large, lots of pieces in that bowl!) and one bowl of 糯米饭， ONLY $3.50!!! Oh my, so cheap, nice and well-balanced diet! I really like it a lot! =DD Nicest lunch of the week!! =p lol..

When I was on my way home, my gf sms-ed me saying that she was so poor thing studying alone at home, so I decided to go woodlands to do milo delivery! =p lol. Baby jia you jia you for ur revision!! =DD Porridge together tomorrow!! =]

Anyway when I was on my way to take train, I saw my junior - Camarine, and she was talking to her friend. Then I purposely walked very slowly in front of her, but alas, she didn't notice me! =p lol. So I went to a corner and waited. Then after she was done with her talking, I walked up and tried to call her. Before u managed to catch her up, however, one stall owner de coconuts dropped off all over the floor. So I decided to stop and help him to pick up those coconuts. While I was picking up those coconuts, I realised that she also came forward and helped to pick up those coconuts too. Then I said hi to her and she was like "Eh? How come it is you?" =p lol. Oh my, so many coconuts on the floor! =x lol. And I realised only two of us stopped and helped the stall owner when there were so many people just stopped and saw and went off! =x lol. Never mind never mind, simply because she was the only one who came forward to help that I felt so happy and proud of her!!

I just want to say that "I am really proud to have a junior like you! Continue to work hard and jia you jia you! =] I know u will be able to do well! Keep it up!! =DD"

Learn from My Mistake!

Finally done with 2 super hiong assignments – 3,500 words Politic essay on government fund requirement and 2,000 words Accounting Theory essay on Fair Value Accounting! =D Thank to my group mates – Eugene, Jaszamyn and Vivian for their help and support for the past 2 weeks, notably for Jaszamyn and Vivian to stay over the night to finish up the body of the essay! Really appreciate you two de help! Thankz a lot!! =DD 2 more to go – Investment and International Finance! Jia you jia you!! =]

Anyway, I was done with my Accounting presentation – really, I was done! =x My presentation was highly-criticised by my tutor, to some points that I really thought that I had over done with my presentation. While others thought that he was too strict, I was actually quite happy being criticised by my tutor, because I knew that he was really strict and has high expectation on his students. Hence, while I quite sad not being able to prepare and do well for the presentation, I would still took his advices and criticism positively so that I can improve next time round! =] I am not afraid to make mistakes, as long as I learnt something new and gained experiences, I am quite happy with it! =D

But to my surprise, I was the Best Presenter of that week, out of six presenters! I was really surprised! Caused I thought I really did badly (oh no, I not trying to say that other presenters were lousier than me, it was just that I felt I really did badly!). =x

In addition, I did a quite check, and out of the 10 presentations so far, 7 Best Presenters were from my class! Woots!! =D

One Day of NTU

Since this week is my recess week and my gf is having her mid-term, so I decided to accompany her in NTU for one whole day from 8am – 9pm. =p lol..

My gf was really hardworking, to stay and do her work until 2am? Then I jiu accompanied her. =p lol. But I was afraid that I might not be able to wake up on time at 5am to pick her up, I actually stayed up the whole night so that I wouldn't fall slp! =x lol.. In the end for the whole night I was preparing the working plan for my uni project group. When I plotted out all the deadlines, I realised that we had a tight schedule to follow. That was why I was planning what should be done by my group for the coming 6 weeks over the whole night.

Below is the rough plan:

For those who is going or about to go uni, that is how busy u will get next time! =p lol.

By the time I finished the whole plan. It was 5am already and I rushed myself to go and pick up my gf. =] It has been a long time since I left home so early at 6.15am when I am now a person who will sleep until 8-9am then wake up that kind. =x lol. When I boarded the train towards Marsiling, I saw a lot of students in JC uniforms. Kinda envy, felt like wearing my JC uni again. But 1^st, I have expanded horizontally since I graduated from JC, don't think my pants will fit me anymore. 2^nd, as a person like me that have chao lao face to wear JC uni, like trying to act young like that! =p lol. But anyway I still miss my JC days the most! =D lol..

Finally saw my gf after waiting her for quite sometimes. I don't care what others think, but I think that my gf is pretty okay?!?! =D Miss her everyday here and there! *lurves* =]

After we reached NTU, my gf went on to meet her friend and I went to Canteen B for breakfast. Then after that went to Free Access Lab to use internet and revise my Investment notes! =] I was kinda surprised to see there were a lot of ppl who were queuing up to print their notes. I was like, shoudnt you all print the notes at home the night before? There were so much people that those who came in late actually gave up queuing.. =x lol. I used to do that lah, but soon after I jiu changed to print the day earlier so that I could read it at home. In fact, my school last time also have this kind of problem. But I don't see it now. Maybe people really start to print notes on their own, or they simply don't print out notes because they not coming for lectures at all. =x lol.

Talking about notes printing, Jing Zuan if u are reading this, I do hope that u actually bought your photocopy card and learnt how to use the photocopy machine le. Please don't be defiant and just go and buy the card!!! =p lol.

Anyway, when its lunch time, it was really sweet of my gf to bought me drink and food..=] Thankz a lot baby! *hugz* =] And thankz for Wileen for treating me lunch! Thankz =D Hope to see u again in school! =D lol.

Anyway after that I totally brain death and got nothing to do, so I went to the Canteen B for some stoning session. And I decided to blog. =p lol..The breezes were really cold and comfortable, and I actually dozes off quite a number few times. =p lol.

Yeap! I am very tired! Have morning Investment lecture and tutorial again; Then send-off my friend Kai Yuan to Australia, then reached home le still doing group assignments de plan. Busy days. =x lol.

While waiting for my gf, I saw quite a number of friends there, but like none of them recognise me! =p lol. All like, "Sebastz? Eh? How come u are here arh??" =p lol. Then somehow I managed to get two friends to accompany me. Actually not really accompany me, caused one of them is waiting for her bf and the other was waiting for her dad! I thought it was I accompanied them more than they accompanied me! =p lol. But still, thankz Cheryl and Hui Min! =]

She is Cheryl, my junior for both secondary school and JC. Too bad I cannot gt into NTU, if not she will be my junior since secondary school! (She must be thinking: "Luckily u didn't manage to come NTU, heng arh!!" =D lol.) I think now she looks like my JC civic tutor Ms Goh, which Hui Min agreed! =p lol.

She is Hui Min, my JC friend, who wanted to go Africa! =p lol.

Finally managed to see my gf again! =] Glad to hear from her that all her presentation and quizzes were all fine! =] After that we went on to have dinner and I sent her home. That's about it for my day in NTU. =p lol. *hugz with lurves!* =]

Ooi Kai Yuan

Monday - I was having dinner with a group of friends as a farewell dinner to my JC friend – Kai Yuan who is going to University of Melbourne to study Dentistry. Eating the 99cents sushi outlet again. =p lol. I was teaching us to how to make an order. To ensure that past mistakes do not happen again, each of us counted how many plates that we have took individually, and paid accordingly.

Opps sorry, he is not Kai Yuan, he is another good friend of mine, Yisan – eating sushi. =p lol.

Tuesday – the next day after class I went to Changi Airport to send him off with another group of my JC friends.. =p lol.. Bon Voyage Mr Ooi! =] Hope that u will be able to do well at Melbourne! And stay fit okay? Since he complained that food there comes in a large portion.. =D lol..

Our 4th Valentine’s Day and 162th Week Anniversary! =D

It is our 3^rd year for being together but it is already our 4^th Valentine's Day celebration! =D lol.. Hm.. Let see how was the whole process began.

Two weeks before the D-day, each of us was wondering what we were going to buy for the other half. So we decided to just shop together. Mine was rather easy. Because my pillow was really small and out of shape, so I wanted a new pillow! =p lol. So we went to JP to look for the "Sea Horse" shop to buy pillow, in the end we bought the what "Sea Horse Memory Pillow", which was supposed to be able to remember the shape of my neck and head so that I could sleep more comfortably. =] lol. Originally all items on that outlet were on 50% off since it was a new outlet. Then when we went to buy, there was an additional 10% discount! =D lol. We were quite happy to be able to get good bargain. But only later in time that we discovered that other outlets were also on 60% off! =x So kena cheat! =p lol.

Then for her, we went and considered quite a number of things before we finally decided on a new wallet for her since her then-wallet de coins compartment was kinda loosen, so her coins always dropped out. =x lol. Then we went to ESprint to find a new wallet and managed to find one that she liked! =D lol. Initially we thought that we would be given the display wallet because we didn't see any new one. But luckily they did have a new wallet for her! =D lol. Anyway, thankz Kai Wen for her help in wrapping the wallet. =]

Okay, tts all for the V-day gifts! =] The FLOWER! This year I got no time to make flowers, so I decided to buy a bouquet of real flower! =D lol. Something did cropped out, but in the end I settled with a bouquet of 5 white roses! (1^st, didn't know what was the meaning of 5 roses; 2^nd, the roses were more yellow than white! =p lol.) Anyway, it was nicely wrapped still! =] Thankz Hui Yin for all your help! Really appreciate them! =D lol..

Oh yah, still got V-day card! =] I went online to search for taddy teddy de picture, then when I went to collect the flower, I went to popular to buy card, then when I home liao I jiu print out the pictures on the card. Pirated taddy teddy card that would cost me $12+ if I was to buy the real one. =x lol. Anyway thankz for ur card baby! Lurve it! =D

Then Dinner!! =p lol.. Originally we also considered quiet a number of places, in the end we decided to go for Delifrance @ Causeway Point since it was near her house! =] Lol. We went there earlier since they did not allow advance booking. =x Oh well, but luckily we went there earlier, so we managed to get a place immediately. But the Valentine's Set Meal was so-so and the service was so-so too! The drink, soup and main course all came together. =s Suddenly our table was so full of food! =x lol.. But there was a complementary bear given by the Delifrance! Quite cute! At least our new ah bear bear made the day! =D lol..

What happened after the dinner jiu shall not disclose here liao, since I have some younger readers here. =p lol. For sure no line crossing okay? =p lol..

Apparently all my friends are crazy over this $10million toto!! A lof of my friends' facebook status are about toto!! =p lol. Since so many people are so crazy about it.. Let me share this reading that I read from The Straits Times. =]

Toto has been played in Singapore since 1968. This is what happens before and during a draw:

Six officers, including an external auditor, oversee every draw. All draw equipment are sealed and locked, and the key and access card to the draw room are held separately by two officers.
First, a computer program is run to randomly select the machine that will pick the numbers and a back-up one, as well as the respective sets of balls for these machines. Only one machine is used for each draw, but the back-up is always on standby in case of breakdowns.
Next, the draw team retrieves the selected equipment from the sealed and locked room. Draw balls are individually weighed to ensure that they all stand an equal chance of being drawn.
The balls are then loaded into the draw machine and its back-up, in sequence, in the draw hall before members of the public.
At the draw time - for tonight's draw, it is 9.30pm - a member of the public is invited to press the button to start the proceedings.
The winning numbers are announced as the balls are drawn.
After the draw is done, all equipment are checked, then locked and resealed away in the room until the next draw.

Woah!! I only late for my accounting theory for 15mins!!! What a big improvement! =p lol. Usually I would be late for 30mins-1hr de. =x lol. But then hor, so nan de I reached so early, but most of my clique never come! =x lol. Sad! Only got Hui Ming with me in the 1^st half of the lecture. 2^nd half of lecture I saw a familiar face walked past me!! Charis was back!! =D After one week of secret preparation for her presentation finally saw her physically! =p lol. After that we three went to opposite de coffee shop to da bao her favourite mee pok! Oh, did I mention that Hui Ming finally managed to eat her laksa?? =p lol. (for those who have no idea what I talked about, please refer to my previous entry! xP lol..)

Anyway managed to finalise the topic for our group de accounting theory research – Historical Cost versus Fair Value Accounting Method and their implications to the financial statements! =] Woah! Looking forward to do the research! Hope that I will be able to learn more about this topic and crap more during the interview next time! xD lol..

I was really happy that my gf told me that she was able to go to Pusan National University for her overseas exchange! =] I will miss ya! *lurve* =]

Service - It’s the thought that counts =]

None of my usual friends in sch for my International Finance lecture today, and don't feel like going out, so I decided to stay in the refreshment room to spend my 4hrs break. =] I was able to do my reading quietly until a group of people came in and started their discussions. And surprisingly, they talked more on any other thing than their own work! =p lol.. Feel so glad when they finally left the room for lunch! =] Oh! Did I mention that they were my friends??! xP lol..

Then another group of friends came in, then one of them, Hui Ming, suddenly asked me, "Sebastz, u hungry or not? Want to eat something??" Then she proclaimed to the whole world (actually only 3 other persons in the room! xD lol) that "I want to eat laksa!!" xP lol.. The best part was, when I accompanied her to go and buy the laksa, the laksa sold out liao! When we two back to the sch, the other two friends of us: "Laksa sold out liao arh??" and laught at her! =p lol.. K lah k lah, tml all of us accompany u go and eat laksa! =p lol..

Then rushed back home to do my tutorial. And suddenly I saw my friend, Kai Wen, sat there waiting for train. Later then I know she was waiting to pass skirt to her customer. The shirt was nicely wrapped! =] Then she still said, "My friend scolded me liao, she said I only earn so little still need wrap until so nice!" =p lol.. And when the customer came and wanted to pay her $10 or something she said to her that she already paid etc. So honest! =p lol.. Oh well, her 1^st customer. =p lol..

Just back from IJ de orientation '09. =] Really very happy to see all of them were enjoying themselves for the past 3 days. =] Even though this year de cohort is rather small, but do wish them All (S) e Bastz for their new JC lives! =D Lecture + tutorial + CCA + PW + plenty of mugging time together with friends! =]

Oh yah, managed to see some JC2 juniors that I got to know of at last year de orientation, like Amanda, Michelle, Shermene, Pamela etc. (Hm.., just realised all are gals.. =x lol) Do hope that all JC2 will concentrate on their studies and do proud on themselves! =]

Rest well ppl! Because from tml onwards u all will have a "real taste" of how a JC student de life is like! xP lol..

Accounting Theory

Honestly, I like this module a lot! =] Because I can learn a lot of new things that I do not learn in other modules. In fact, I enjoy tons of reading required by the module, but not rushing for summaries! =x opps! I have been doing article summaries for the past one week! =s lol. But read liao really got different de. I remembered on the first tutorial class, I was kind of ill-prepared, then during the class I was like, "hah??" with my classic "open mouth super catch-no-ball look!". But today finally improved abit! =p lol. At least during the class could understand what my teacher said and still could join the discussion here and there. =]

The module is really interesting I would say. Sometimes I really do not understand why researchers can think of this and that, when people like me simply do not understand what are they talking about, or even if we understand what are they talking about, but also will wonder why are they really so free can think of all these theories and terms when we do not see any difference and need to do so??

IJC Open House ‘09

I went to IJC Open House before i rush to sch.. Tired! =x lol.. Honestly speaking, it was not that fun, very dull.. =x But i think it was because there was no crowd.. =x Opps.. Hopefully it will get better during the Orientation!!! =D lol.. Looking foward to be back to IJ again by then! =] Yay!! =D

Anyway, the school actually printed out the brochure using my photo eh (oh, i meant the photo that i took! xP lol..)!!! But then, that photo hor, was taken by me during the Pre-U Seminar eh, and the most shocking thing was that, none of the students in that photo was from IJ!! Win liao loh!! =p lol..

Anyway talking about Open House, gotta mentioned Vennesa! =p lol.. Long long long time ago, she came to IJ Open House together with her mum, just nice I was at the gate, then jiu shown them around the school for the whole day.. =p lol.. She went to MI and after 1st 3 mths she back to IJ again! =p lol.. And during the orientation I was like, "Eh? Were you the gal that i shown you around the school together with your mum??" =p lol..

Lol.. Have 4hrs break in-between my morning International Finance lecture and the tutorial, so we decided to do some workout! =p lol.. Playing badminton liao then go gym! =] I managed to run some distances! =p lol.. But the rowing machine was my favourite!! =p lol..

Eeww.. =x lol.. After that still have difficult to walk home.. =x lol..

Walked from my home to Yew Tee Station
Took MRT to Woodlands
Took Bus 161 all the way to Hougang
Walked from Upper Serangoon Road - Tampines Road - Hougang Ave 1 (one area got 3 roads that are named under 3 other areas.. =x and i actually could remember clearly all the road names.. XP lol..)
Walked into the Jalan Hock Chye, only to see house number 20 and 22.. =s (I was looking for 21 =x lol..)
Finally saw her house just beside the main road! =p lol..

Reached liao 1st thing to do was to find food caused I too hungry! =x lol.. Had a nice dinner (though have to wait for drumstick to be bbq-ed.. coz too big!!! must cooked very long! =p lol..).. =]

The most important part!!! We played Wii!!! =p lol.. Never play before.. So just anyhow play, and I was the overall champion for all games that we played!!! Wiiii!!! =p lol.. I shall get myself a Wii, coz can burn fat!!! =p lol..

Anyway, thank a lot Rachel for providing us with the place and food!!! =] Really so sorry for accommodating a group of crazy people inside your house!! =x lol.. So sorry to Esther, Josh and Ruth too!!! =x lol.. Oh yah, the cute Remmie dog!!! =] lol..

Sembawang Shopping Center

Actually wanted to go and watch Ponyo Ponyo at Bishan, but decided to go SSC instead! =p lol.. Took a long long bus ride to reach there.. =x lol.. About half of the shops were not ready yet.. =x lol.. But the other half looked quite okay to me.. =] Went into Daiso and after much harship me and my gf managed to find Bluey, our new son!! =D lol..

After walked here and there, we had our dinner at Astons! Yes, the same restaurant that I went recently with my uni mates. Hm.., last time we queued for 40mins at the Grand Cathay. For this one in SSC, we no need to queue, but from the time we got our seats to the time we got our food, was like 35mins.. =x Oh dear.. We waited until my margarine melted and we bet they never process my gf de herb fish before we told them that her dish not her yet. =x But the food and service were nice though, I must say.. =]

After that we were lucky that we managed to board the bus to Woodlands when we thought the bus went to Sembawang only.. =p lol.. Had a nice day with my gf! =]

PSB Class Outing - Dinner at Astons

It was the first time i managed to attend a class outing... =p lol.. Never go for the early part of the outing going to Minds Cafe for games.. =p lol.. Too late, and kinda really noisy there, so I went to the nearby MacDonalds and waited for my friends.. =p lol..

After that we went to the Grand Cathay for our dinner! =] We queued for like close to 40mins!! =s lol.. But finally we managed to get a good dinner and good service.. =]

After that we went to a pub, and chilled out.. =p lol.. And our poor Limin, kena suan until.. xp We all were kinda worried for her not being able to cook! =s lol.. How How?? =P lol..

GF's 19th Bdae! =]

Supposed to wear couple jeans, but then apparently i rmb wrongly the colour of my gf's jeans.. In the end our jeans like totally different in colour! =p lol..

Well, we went to Thai Noodles House near NJ, coz my gf wanted to go! =] Even though she remembered the direction wrongly have to resort to calling her friend! =p lol... I almost finished my tom yam soup when my drink finally arrived.. =x lol.. But i thought the waiter was kinda busy too since she was the only one there serving the customers.. =x lol.. Overall, we did have a good Thai meal!! =]

After that we went to HarbourFront to shop for her shoes and walked around.. When finally its dinner time, we went to Lerk Thai at Civic Plaza.. The food was nice, though we preferred the earlier Thai Noodles House's foods.. =p lol..

Afterall, felt very guilty this year, like didnt really plan her bdae well.. Didnt even gt her a bdae cake! =x So sorry baby! But dont worry! U shall hav a good start for ur 19th! =]

X'mas 2008

I spent it happily with my gf! =] We went to Giant - Courts - Ikea @ Tampines! =p lol.. Okay, maybe bored to some ppl.. But at least I was quite happy I could spend it with my loved one! =]

And I have started my "yong tao fu" diet.. =p lol.. Had my yong tao fu brunch at Giant de foodcourt! Then we saw different types of ricecookers and pans.. Amazed! =p lol..

Then we went to Court and Ikea, where we saw different types of showrooms.. And I just realised that me and my gf have different preferences.. She liked her bed to be high from the ground, while I liked my bed to be close to the ground! And we were kinda arguing which type of bed we should buy next time.. =p lol.. Oh yah, we even arguing abt the pillow as well!! =p lol..

Its kinda fun now for us to argue how our house to be next time.. But I guess next time when we really get married and buying house.. We can really argue alot.. =p lol.. Now we having dry-run! =p lol..

In between, we went to eat at Ikea's food court! I ate the butter rice with a really big grilled drumstick! =p lol.. and my gf having kid's meal swedish meatballs! =p lol.. After that we went back to Causeway Point to hav our dinner, and yeap, you got it right, we having yong tao fu! =p lol.. And its like the 1st time i having meal without anything fried, other than the egg! Kinda my healthiest meal! =p lol..

TPI - Reflections

Back from TPI.. =]

Anyway, first of all, I need to clarify this - TPI means Tanjung Pinang, a city on Bintan Island (yes, that Bintan Island super near Singapore that people go for spa or whatever.. =p lol..), not Taipei like what one of my friend Yuen Ting said. =x lol..

Day 1 - Sunday

Reached there at about 5pm local time, waited for a long time before my mum cooked the dinner.. =x lol.. It was a simple meal.. Let see.. Sambal prawn, meatball soups, steamed fish and sotong balls. Surprisingly there was no vegetable.. =p lol.. Actually, when I said it was a simple meal, not that simple also, because I could see that my mum was busy here and there.. =x But people, I got help her cook de okay?? Dont say I unfilial okay? =p lol..

It has been quite a long time since I had dinner with my parents. The feeling was great! =] All right Sharon, I admit I envy you for mum's cooking everyday okay?? =p lol..

Day 2 - Monday

When to the Indonesia's ICA to make my passport. When I reached there, I noticed the road outside the building was not properly done. It was in quite a bad condition actually, but surprisingly, there was an okay tennis court within the compound. I was like, "Got money to make tennis court, no money to maintain a proper road within the compound. =s Haiz.." Next, when into the office, I realised that people could smoke inside because it was not air-conditioned. So smokers and non-smokers were all sitting together.. I was thinking why not they at least asked those smokers to sit at one side and non-smokers to sit at the other side.. =x Then I went to take the passport photos, I realised that they took my fingerprints as well.. All 10 fingerprints were taken. This was one of the things that I was happy about - more high-tech machines were used, hopefully they could set up a database so that it could be used as a database to fight crime as well.. =]

The whole process took less than an hour (when I tried to apply for my passport at Indonesian Embassy, I waited for 2hrs =x). After that I went online for a while then oink until dinner time. =x Went out for dinner, somewhere near my house. Kangkong with some nice sauce, sambal prawn, fried sotong and sambal lebang fish! All nice nice! =] Oh yah, and lots of rice! =p lol.. I ate about 5 plates of rice?? =x lol.. and we paid only Rp. 120,000 or $16 only. =D

After that, we went home, just in time to watch <小娘惹>. Watched one episode liao, suddenly all lights were off. The electricity was cut off, as per normal.. =s After so long I still didnt understand why the authority was not able to generate enough electricity to meet the local demand. Haiz..

But the worse thing came after this. I saw a power generator in our shop this afternoon, then I was so happy that finally my parents bought a generator, so that we all could still have power supply even if the power supply was cut off.. But you know what, my clever dad only installed the cable such that only my shop at lower floors could use the generator, but not the living area at the upper floors, meaning even if we got the generator, we could not use it to watch tv and air-con and so on, then I was like -.-""" Clever loh.. =s And hor, other shops used generators le! Only my house dark dark de loh! Siao liao.. =s

In the end I went to sit beside my room's window, and noticed an uncle sweeping the floor. And I saw that uncle was sweeping the floor from 9pm all the way to 2am. When I moved my sight up, I saw an internet cafe that was filled with lots of youngsters. Then I was thinking, "How much wages that the uncle would earn? In Singapore we still have Work Development Agency (WDA) to subsidize people for learning new skills to find new jobs, but such things were non-existent in Indonesia. =( Income disparity remains large I guess...

When the power supply was restored at about 10.30pm (2.5hrs without power supply, my mum said I was lucky, because normally it would last for 4-5hrs), I turned on the TV and saw Survivor - Gabon. I didnt know the finale was on Monday night, so i watched until Matty was voted out. Thought I didnt really like that Bob, but I must admit that he was worthy enough to win the tie-breaker match, for him to practice how to start the fire in that afternoon. Then I went to sleep, but I could not, so after some struggling, I went back and watched TV again, and the Survivor was still on. So I watched all the way till 1am local time (2am SG time) =x

Day 3 - Tuesday

Woke up and helped my parents looked after the shop for a while. While talking to other people was not really a problem, but because I had no idea about the price and size, so conversations were quite awkward. =x lol..

Soon, my mum told me that my passport was ready. I was quite surprised, it took less than 2 days for my new passport when it took close to 5 days to make the passport in Singapore. Later i learnt from my dad that my passport application was processed on a fast-track, because the application was submitted through a "大人物", thats why my passport took less than 2 days jiu done liao.

I was thinking though the Chinese formed a large, powerful group in my place and controlled the local economy, it was still a minority group within the country. So as a minority, the Chinese community was rather unified to protect their interests, which somehow has grown into a community which has a wide network that might allow it to sometimes work outside the official rules (which i was quite certain that it was why my passport was done so quickly). Of course, this also happens to certain affluent Indonesian as well.

But as it was a minority group, which fortunately (and also unfortunately) controlled significant economic interests in the country, to work outside the rules could be easily accused by the local Indonesians for being cocky because it was rich. This negative sentiment could be easily used and stirred up by some other Indonesians for their own economic or even political interests since the locals were generally less-educated and earned low incomes.

The government, at the same time, while I was not saying that they were really incompetent, has to take into account the demand of local Indonesians, and implemented some policies that while in name applicable to all Indonesians, but in practical only affected the Chinese community. For example, the new ferry tax would be increase to $70, while the ferry ticket itself was only $40. While its true that this rule was applicable to all, but as most of the passengers were Chinese, this rule effectively "punished" the Chinese community.

But sadly, such policies would only make the Chinese community distrust the local government even more, which in return would strengthen their community and I believed that this would make the Chinese community more vulnerable to such negative sentiments from local community and this vicious cycle would just go on and on and the conflict between the two groups would just getting more and more serious.

If only more funds are available for local education so that higher human capital can be achieved and both groups are willing to work together hand in hand, i believe the country will be prosperous in no time.

After that we went for dinner outside. Foodcourt setting - minus the air-con, light and cleanness, you know what I mean. =x All motorbikes were passing around the narrow road, I was thinking if you could travel from one end to the other, surely you would not have any problem on other main roads. =x lol..

Along the stalls, i saw lots of wild cats moving here and there to find leftovers, trying to cross the road that was full of bikes, looking for leftovers. They were really struggling hard to survive.

Finally we got a place to have our dinner. I had one plate of char kuay tiao, one place of rice with fried rice and one place of prawn cakes. =x Then I saw this young lady who was helping in her dad's stall. She was cooking a pot of soup, then still need to look after the fire, serve customers, wash dishes and when she was free, she sat down and writing things in a serious manner (I guessed she was doing some accounts or homework??). *respect respect*

After we done with the dinner, i noticed along the way there were youngsters helping out in stalls too. Not too sure whether they all attending school in the morning, but if they were, I really respected them, struggling between school work in the morning and still need to help out in the stalls at night. At the same time I really feel guilty, just spending money like water, and never really study hard when I have the opportunities to receive education in such a comfortable way.

Slacking is such a luxury to them.

Went to bed on 9pm, but was rolling on bed till 1am, thinking about this. =x

Anyway, throughout my days there, I was bombarded by the fighter jets - mosquitoes. Now I have plenty of mosquito bites on my hands and legs. =s

Last but not least, I missed my gf. Glad i finally back to Singapore to see her again. *lurves* =]

I was watching a TV series <大国崛起> last Sunday.. Its the 2nd time i watch this series and still having lots of feeling watching it.. =p lol..

I dont know any German, so i guess its not sth for me to say.. =p lol.. But judging for the relationship between Germany and other EU nations, i guess the former has been pretty successful in accepting its past and continue to move forward. And the Germany and France, which were once bitter enemies of each other, are now working hand in hand. It was said in the tv series that what happened during the Nazi period was included into the history texbooks, so that the later generations would be able to understand this painful experience and strive to prevent anything like that to happen ever again.

Past - Present - Future

We shall learn from the past, cherish what we have in the present and strive for the best for the future.

I was "impressed"

Oh, plz refer to my previous blog entry "i was impressed" b4 u read this entry.. =x lol..

I was really impressed how this group of students celebrated the gal bdae..

A lot of explanations on why the above happened, some said its a case of bullying? some said its juz a prank? or juz like the official statement from the sch principal that it was juz a celebration, blah blah.. I do not noe wad really happened in between, so i am definitely not in a position to comment whether its really a case of bullying or not, neither do I gonna to associate this event with the sch, bcoz i do believe that wad happened above is juz an isolated case that does not represent the whole population of ACJC students becoz my ACJC friends do behave really well and doin well in their respective fields.

Wad i am more concerned is on the part on some students do think that wad happened above are "normal" ways to celebrate bdae.. I was like o.O .. and my friends said this is not the worst.. O.O This is the normal way our younger peers celebrated their birthdays??

I am really worried to see that some students do think that this is "normal" and i am more worried that few years down the road, this will become a norm (or has it?? =s) for bdae celebration. I am really worried for my children nxt time.. I am serious.. =x How would you and ur parents feel if ur younger siblings have their bdae celebrated by their friends in this manner?? Worse, wad if the person was traumatized by the experience and committed suicide?? (we nv noe? =x), then who would be held reponsible??

If our society thinks that this way of celebrating bdae is okie, then i got nth more to say. but i am now assuming that our society is not "ready" for this kind of celebration, then i will say that this kind way of celeration is certainly getting abit out of hand.. and i really afraid that it will send a wrong msg to other youths that is sth normal that they can do it as and when they like..

I am seriously disturbed.. =x

PS: judging from the way the media reported the event, i am assuming that the media does not seem to treat this peice of news too positively, and assuming that the official statement given by the sch is true that the whole process was purely a bdae celebration, then i will say that this event will be a classic textbook example on how a media is able to tweak the truth and affect public opinion. =x lol..

Holding Hands

Oh friends, as much as i wish i could write it out myself, but the entry below is written by my friend, Yuan Ru. So the credit goes to her! =] I find it interesting so i share it with u all.. =]

When you were 4 or 5, the only people whom you held hands with were probably your parents. They would hold your little hand tightly in theirs when you cross the road, giving you the sense of security.

When you reach kindergarten, you hated holding hands with the boy who queued up next to you even though the teacher insisted that you must do it and keep the other finger of your free hand to your mouth. You try all sorts of ways to get minimal contact with the boy - by holding only his pinky with yours or by holding a hanky between the two of you for extreme cases.

When you enter primary school, you start to think boys are stupid and you still resent holding their hands. However, if you fancy the boy next to you, you will willingly hold his hand without resistance or complaints and hope that the walk to music room will take forever. This is when you discover the joy of holding hands with someone you like.

When you are a secondary school student, rumours start flying and they fly in all sorts of directions whether you like it or not. Puppy love blossoms, usually kept low-key; and if you are seen holding hands with an opposite sex in school on monday, the entire school will be informed by tuesday. If couples hold hands in school, they are asking for trouble in the form of detention. At this age, you think holding hands with your loved one is the sweetest thing to do. Ever.

When you become a jc student, things change. You are not shy to hold hands in public anymore. In fact, it makes you feel like an adult. An adult who is very much in love. Teachers can’t be bothered if you hold hands in school. You can even hold hands in lectures under your jacket.

When you are 18, you want to make sure that the hands that you are holding gives you the same sense of security your parents gave you when you were 4. You want to make sure that the hands are those that you want to hold on to for the rest of your life. You want to believe that your hands are moulded in such a way that it fits perfectly in your lover’s hands. You hope that this pair of hands will never leave you.

When you hit 20, you realise you start to hold hands much much much lesser than before. People fail to recognize its importance anymore.

I think hand holding is essential to a relationship. Theres nothing to be shy about holding hands anymore. Its the simplest way of showing that you care & you are there - physically and emotionally. As we grow up, our attitude towards hand holding starts to slacken. I hate that.

I love holding hands with the one I love. Because “Can I hold your hand?” was the question etched in my mind. It was the first hint we gave to each other, isn’t it?

So, will you please just hold my hand a little more - wherever & whenever?

Stress - A Level

Lol.. After 1.5 weeks of grilling, many of my juniors started to feel the stress of A Level exam. Well Well.., wad can i say, its like the worst exam u can even take in ur life.. =x lol.. and it effects you in deciding which uni and course that you are allowed to get in.. so yah.., its stressful.. =x

Like i always said to my gal and others, if u did badly for one paper, then jiu dont care about that paper liao.. Juz concentrate on the next paper! There is really no nd to lose all your confidence juz bcoz of that one paper.. =x

"Ya rite Sebastz, its easy for you to say that.. I thought i always see you emo for the whole day juz bcoz u didnt perform "well" for any of your mid-term paper?? =s" my friends in PSB will like that say.. =p lol..

Yeap true, of course i fell sad lah! =( Did badly for exam who wont sad de.. Even the most bo-chap de person also will feel sad de loh! =x But my point is, its better to spend ur energy to read one more chapter for tml de exam, rather than emo for the whole day.. =x

I like wad my friend, Li Min, wrote in her blog, which i always share it to others:

Hei, ppl, its not i blogger abt this bcoz she is a gal or she is from ACJC, but i juz want to say that i was impressed by her quick act in offering her help to those who need..

I was impressed bcoz:

She has the first aid skills.
She was willing to help (hav skills is one thing, but willing to help is another big thing.. =x).
She was able to execute it nicely (ps: so li hai that even policemen also stand and watch! oops! =p lol...) (to hav skills is one thing, to be willing to help is another, but not only that she has the skills and willing to help, she wasnt kan jiong and able to deal with the situation calmly).

I was IMPRESSED!!! =p lol..

Dress Code

Not sure whether is just a co-incidence wad, but two of my friends blogged abt dress code in sch.. and the next day i came across this article “No shorts, or dyed hair" on The Straits Times. I was quite surprised to see the "commotion" and decided to kpo abit.. =p lol..

My view is rather simple, "dress in a way that you feel comfortable and appropriate".

Actually, when i try to explain it to myself, its not that simple at all.. =p lol.. Hmm..

"I fell comfortable in short and tube, so it shd be okie wad. The weather is really warm ya noe?"
(PS: the "I" is not referring to ME! =p lol..) Haha..

True true.. even though as a guy i am more than willing to see pretty gals in tubes and shorts, but well as a friend, its always better to see them at least wearing a cardigan to cover the shoulder.. Afterall you will feel cold in the air-con classroom anyway.. =x I hav seen gals who look nice in short skirts, but then hor, when they sit down rite, they nd to pull this side pull that side, look very uncomfortable.. wads the point sia.. =x

For a guy, i think 3 S's are definitely a no-no to me - Singlets, Shorts and Sandals. Its like so rude to wear them to class.. At least wear pants or jeans with shoes plz.. =x

But ppl may blast me saying "how come to you gals that wear 3 S's are okay but guys wearing 3 S's are not okay?!?! =s"

True.. But hei, dont come and blast me okie? of course how comfortable and appropriate are defined are pretty subjective, so yeah, you may hav different views, but above are my views.. =p lol..

But i hav to agree with wad my friend has commented in her blog, juz bcoz you wear this and that to sch doesnt mean that you can comment on ppl who wear shorts and tee and flops to skool or jeans right?

But personally, i agreed more on wad this friend of mine said, "every morning when i wake up for school, i have to go through the dilemma of deciding what to wear. its not that i will deliberately dress up for lectures but its a form of courtesy, no? i mean, i dont think your lecturers dress down when they are standing in front giving a lecture so its natural for the students to put in a little effort into their dressing as a form a respect for the lecturer??"
